19-2 A hard-hitting Canadian cop show
Seriously, no one has ever heard of this show but I have watched it through three times now and I know I will watch it again. 19-2 is the police car and we follow the police officers that ride in it.
Corruption is at the heart of this show and it goes all the way to the top. Everyone cuts corners and bends the rules. Some great characters in this show, not all likeable by a long stretch but I even found myself feeling sympathetic to the worst of them at times. There is one episode where the officers attend an active shooting at a high school and its so well done and tense that I held my breath through most of it.
Its a real shame this show only got 4 seasons because I could have watched a lot more. Highly entertaining, fairly gritty and some real in depth character studies in there. One thing I also like about this show is that its not formulaic, its a story and it feels like we are following real people doing real things - not just cases to be solved - although there is some of that going on as well.
The rollercoaster friendship between the two mains is a big part of the show and they have such great screen chemistry going on. Their scenes together are my favourite. There is a lot of morally grey decision making in 19-2 and that adds to the authenticity of it. One wrong choice can lead to a spiralling web of lies that almost always gets someone in a jam that has them crossing a line they can’t uncross.
I think its available on Acorn TV via Amazon Prime in the UK. Definitely worth it.
